“The Whale Store” as it is known today, has a history that dates back more than 50 years to 1969 when famed St. Andrews residents Willa Walker and her sister Nora Breese first opened the shop. Originally called “Boutique la Baleine (Baleine being the French word for whale), “The Boutique” as is it known to locals was later expanded from a seasonal to a year-round business when purchased by current owner Sheila Simpson in 1977.
The Whale Store’s heritage building is over 200 years old and fits in perfectly along St. Andrews’ historic Water Street. The shop’s diverse assortment of wares is a reflection of the town’s unique character and charm. From Greek sailor caps to clothing to cookbooks, The Whale Store has something for everyone and has been a popular shopping spot for tourists and locals alike for decades.
